Day 3: Medina of Tunis


After Breakfast, Mini Bus departure to the medina, old city, of Tunis.

Walk through the winding street of the old town with a recognized specialist of the old Tunis.   Visit the el Zitouna Mosque founded in 732, which represents the cultural and religious center of the city of Tunis. The mosque has a big courtyard surrounded by vaults and an immense prayer room resting over a forest of columns. Visit the house of arts and traditions Dar Ben Abdallah that illustrates the way of life and customs of the nineteenth century Tunis. We will organize an encounter with an architect in charge of the restoration of the old monuments.

In the afternoon, walk at your leisure in the Souks, colorful local markets to discover the exquisite craftsmanship of Tunisia's artisans. Return to Sidi Bou Said where we will enjoy mint tea and pastries in a café overlooking the bay of Tunis.

Dinner in an upscale restaurant in Gammarth featuring fish and Mediterranean specialties. Overnight in Tunis/Suburbs.



Day 4: Dougga/Bulla Regia


After Breakfast, checkout from the hotel in Sidi Bou Said and departure to
Dougga via Testour.  Visit the ancient city of Dougga, the best-preserved
roman city in Africa. Listed in 1997 in the UNESCO world heritage list,
he town of Thugga, built on an elevated site overlooking a fertile plain,
was the capital of an important Punic state. It flourished under Roman and
Byzantine rule. The ruins visible today bear impressive witness to the resources of a small Roman town on the edges of the Empire. Visit the theatre, the capitol and the Saturn temple. Discover the triumphal arch, open-air sanctuary where sacrifices were made. Visit the forum, an exceptional monument built during the 2nd century, then the great Thermae. On our way to Dougga, we will stop by Testour and admire the typical Andalusian style of this town.

Departure for Bulla Regia and the site of Chemtou. Visit the ruins
at Bulla Regia, the only city of the Roman Empire 's golden age
which still preserves its underground villas intact. Visit the different
temples dedicated to Roman divinities, the villas decorated with
mosaics, the imposing ruins of the Thermae, the temples, the theatre and the amazing two level dwellings. Continue to the Museum of Chemtou, the ancient Simmitus, a city belonging to the Berber Kingdom in ancient times, that tells the history of this unique Roman city that lived out of the industrial exploitation of marble (versus all the other cities being agrarian cities) extracted and sent via the Medjerda river to Utique and then on through the Mediterranean sea to Rome.

Day 0: Departure from the US (or Canada) to Tunisia

Day 1: Arrival in Tunis

Personalized welcome by PromoTunisia staff in Tunis Carthage Airport.  Mini Bus transfer to Hotel Dar Said 4* in Sidi Bou Said, a village with immaculate white and blue houses, that has managed to preserve its charm and peacefulness. Check in and free time to rest.
Dinner at Restaurant in Sidi Bou Said.
Overnight in Tunis/Suburbs.

Day 2 :
Bardo museum / Carthage

After breakfast, Mini Bus Departure to the Bardo museum.
Visit the Museum of Bardo, considered one of the richest museums in the world. Housed in one of the former Husseinite palaces, it encloses all the treasures of Tunisian history: from pre-historic times to Punic civilization, the Roman era, Christian’s times, Muslim civilization and up to the twentieth century. It also features the World’s largest collection of mosaics: During the days of the Roman Empire, between the second and sixth century A.D., some of the most spectacular mosaics in the history of art were created in Tunisia. Many extraordinary mosaics are still in place at archeological sites that we will be visiting in Bulla Regia, ElDjem, Sbeitla as well as currently held by the museum of Bardo. The mosaics were commissioned by provincial aristocrats seeking to display their social status and opulent life.

Lunch in La Goulette, the port of Tunis and a rare place that features Tunisian Jewish cuisine.

In the afternoon, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site City of Carthage and its glorious monuments: the Thermes d'Anthonin, the Tophet at Salambo, the Amphiteatre, the Punic Ports and the Acropolium with our Archeologist.

Dinner at one of the best restaurant of Tunis North suburbs featuring
seafood and Tunisian specialties. Overnight in Tunis/Suburbs.
